Understanding Wrinkle Treatments

When dealing with wrinkles, you want to know what will work best for your needs. It's important to talk to your dermatologist in Baton Rouge and Prairieville, LA, about wrinkle treatment options to understand how they work and what each treatment targets.

The two most common forms of wrinkle treatment are Botox and dermal fillers.

Botox is a purified botulinum toxin that temporarily relaxes muscles responsible for expression lines. It is commonly used to treat forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines between the eyebrows. Botox works by blocking nerve signals to the targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles. The effects typically last three to six months, after which you can repeat the treatment to maintain the results.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are injectable substances that add volume and fullness to the skin. They are injected beneath the skin to smooth out wrinkles, fill in hollow areas, and enhance facial contours. Depending on the type of filler used, the immediate results can last from six months to two years.

Botox is typically the best option for preventing new wrinkles and softening existing expression lines. Dermal fillers are more suitable for adding volume, enhancing facial contours, or filling deeper lines.

As a dermatologist, I’m always looking at the bigger picture when it comes to the health and appearance of my patients. Recently, many people have been turning to weight loss medications like Ozempic, and while I think these medications are a great tool for those looking to lose weight and improve their overall health, there’s one side effect that’s been getting a lot of attention: facial volume loss, or what some are calling “Ozempic Face.” “Ozempic Face” refers to the noticeable reduction in facial fat that can occur as a result of rapid weight loss. While shedding pounds can be a great achievement, it can sometimes leave the face looking hollow, gaunt, or less youthful. This happens because fat naturally cushions and shapes the face, and when weight is lost too quickly, the face can lose that fullness, leading to an aged or tired appearance. As someone who works closely with my patients to achieve both their aesthetic and health goals, I’m always eager to offer solutions for this. The good news is that the loss of facial volume can easily be addressed with dermal fillers. These non-invasive treatments are incredibly effective at restoring the volume that may be lost in the cheeks, under-eye area, and jawline. Dermal fillers can help bring back the youthful contours of the face, enhancing the overall appearance without the need for surgery. Dermal fillers are a safe and highly effective way to restore a fuller, natural look to the face, helping my patients look as great as they feel after their weight loss journey. So, if you're experiencing volume loss in your face after weight loss with medications like Ozempic, don’t worry. With a simple dermal filler treatment, we can bring back that youthful, vibrant appearance you desire, while still supporting your overall weight loss and health goals.
