Common Skin Concerns and Solutions: Acne, Aging, Dryness, and Sensitivity

Skin care is important whether your goals are related to either the health or the appearance of your skin, your Baton Rouge and Prairieville, LA, dermatologists can help, and learn more by reaching out to Dr. Ann Zedlitz of Z Aesthetic Dermatology.

Acne

Acne is a very common skin condition that is unfortunately surrounded by many myths regarding its care. One of the most prevalent is that you should allow your acne to run its course, but with the help of your dermatologist, you can often reduce the impact of its symptoms on your skin. Both in helping to prevent breakouts and in treating resulting acne scars.

Aging

With age, your body produces less collagen, an important protein responsible for maintaining your skin's structure. With less collagen available skin tends to lose its elasticity, becomes more dry, and can result in fine lines and wrinkles. While it's impossible to completely turn back the clock you'd be surprised by what's possible thanks to the many treatments available at your dermatologist's office. Injectables in the form of fillers and Botox can provide dramatic results without the need for surgery, and other treatments like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser resurfacing, can all promote natural collagen production.

Dryness and Sensitivity

Dryness and sensitivity can often be the result of outside factors affecting your skin, and your dermatologist can suggest improvements to your beauty routine to keep your skin healthy and hydrated.

But if your skin is often dry and sensitive these may instead be symptoms of an underlying skin condition. Your dermatologist is especially suited to diagnose and treat a wide variety of skin conditions, so visit as early as your symptoms arise to achieve the best possible results.

As a dermatologist, I’m always looking at the bigger picture when it comes to the health and appearance of my patients. Recently, many people have been turning to weight loss medications like Ozempic, and while I think these medications are a great tool for those looking to lose weight and improve their overall health, there’s one side effect that’s been getting a lot of attention: facial volume loss, or what some are calling “Ozempic Face.” “Ozempic Face” refers to the noticeable reduction in facial fat that can occur as a result of rapid weight loss. While shedding pounds can be a great achievement, it can sometimes leave the face looking hollow, gaunt, or less youthful. This happens because fat naturally cushions and shapes the face, and when weight is lost too quickly, the face can lose that fullness, leading to an aged or tired appearance. As someone who works closely with my patients to achieve both their aesthetic and health goals, I’m always eager to offer solutions for this. The good news is that the loss of facial volume can easily be addressed with dermal fillers. These non-invasive treatments are incredibly effective at restoring the volume that may be lost in the cheeks, under-eye area, and jawline. Dermal fillers can help bring back the youthful contours of the face, enhancing the overall appearance without the need for surgery. Dermal fillers are a safe and highly effective way to restore a fuller, natural look to the face, helping my patients look as great as they feel after their weight loss journey. So, if you're experiencing volume loss in your face after weight loss with medications like Ozempic, don’t worry. With a simple dermal filler treatment, we can bring back that youthful, vibrant appearance you desire, while still supporting your overall weight loss and health goals.
