Light therapy is one of the greatest advances in modern aesthetic medicine. The power of light to alter living tissues, as well as objects, has long been known. In this era of science and technology, we now have the ability to refine, filter, intensify, and manipulate the energy of light for a broad array of cosmetic and curative purposes.

Photodynamic Therapy "PDT" is a therapeutic light treatment that utilizes a topical photosensitizer to enhance the results. The colorless, odorless formula is applied to the surface of the skin and allowed to soak in.
As damaged cells absorb the active ingredient, they become more responsive to light energy. This technique can be used with various light sources. Your clinician will choose the best one based on the nature and severity of your skin concerns.
The process begins with a photosensitizing agent being applied to the treatment area. We will then wait until it is absorbed by the skin. After a period of about 60 minutes, the targeted skin cells should be activated and the cream will be removed. The next step is illuminating the treatment area. The precise process will vary, depending on the specific light source chosen.
There is little to no downtime associated with photodynamic therapy. The precise recovery process will vary depending on what type of light is used, but it is typically mild and comfortable. You may experience some dryness or redness, but it is typically mild and resolves quickly. It is important to avoid direct sunlight for a few days following treatment, as the treatment area will have temporarily increased in sensitivity.
