What Is CoolSculpting?

What You Need To Know About Cool Sculpting Treatments

You have been trying to get rid of that last bit of stubborn fat, or you want to do some sculpting on the part of your body that has bothered you for a while. Dr. Ann Zedlitz is the founder of Z Aesthetic Dermatology, located in Baton Rouge and Prairieville, LA, and has over twenty years of experience as a Dermatologist. She mastered the CoolSculpting (CS) technique to provide excellent care for this procedure and is awaiting your phone call for a CS consultation.

What Is Body Sculpting?

This particular sculpting process uses cold and suction to target stubborn fat pockets in some body regions. The cold will begin the process of destroying fat cells. These cells will take a couple of weeks to break down and get cleared out by the lymphatic system.

This technique does not threaten the liver in the excretion of the fat cells and has been proven safe for almost all individuals except those with extreme cold reactions. The FDA has approved sculpting for the following areas:

  • Arms
  • Flank area
  • Chin
  • Fatty areas at the bra area back and sides
  • Directly under the buttocks
  • Outer and inner thighs
  • Upper and lower abdomen

Preparing for Sculpting and Potential Minor Side Effects of the Procedure

According to Dr. Zedlitz of Z Aesthetic Dermatology, located in Baton Rouge and Prairieville, LA, CoolSculpting is for you if you are almost finished with your weight loss journey. This process is not a fat-losing technique but removes excess left-over fat.

Depending on the area being sculpted, the whole process can take between one and three hours to complete. Due to the lengthy process, it is best to eat beforehand.

You may find it helpful to bring a book or something to keep you entertained during the treatment. During the procedure, you may feel some slight pinching or pulling, which can cause mild discomfort.

You can return to your daily activity directly after the procedure. As with any procedure, you may experience the above side effects and can treat them accordingly, except with anti-inflammatories. Taking anti-inflammatory medications may cause more bruising from the procedure.  Treatment results should be noticeable between three and six months after treatment. Almost 80 % of patients show improved results.

As a dermatologist, I’m always looking at the bigger picture when it comes to the health and appearance of my patients. Recently, many people have been turning to weight loss medications like Ozempic, and while I think these medications are a great tool for those looking to lose weight and improve their overall health, there’s one side effect that’s been getting a lot of attention: facial volume loss, or what some are calling “Ozempic Face.” “Ozempic Face” refers to the noticeable reduction in facial fat that can occur as a result of rapid weight loss. While shedding pounds can be a great achievement, it can sometimes leave the face looking hollow, gaunt, or less youthful. This happens because fat naturally cushions and shapes the face, and when weight is lost too quickly, the face can lose that fullness, leading to an aged or tired appearance. As someone who works closely with my patients to achieve both their aesthetic and health goals, I’m always eager to offer solutions for this. The good news is that the loss of facial volume can easily be addressed with dermal fillers. These non-invasive treatments are incredibly effective at restoring the volume that may be lost in the cheeks, under-eye area, and jawline. Dermal fillers can help bring back the youthful contours of the face, enhancing the overall appearance without the need for surgery. Dermal fillers are a safe and highly effective way to restore a fuller, natural look to the face, helping my patients look as great as they feel after their weight loss journey. So, if you're experiencing volume loss in your face after weight loss with medications like Ozempic, don’t worry. With a simple dermal filler treatment, we can bring back that youthful, vibrant appearance you desire, while still supporting your overall weight loss and health goals.
