Why Skin Care Is Important

Dr. Z’s ABCs of Skincare: A Simple Approach to Healthy, Beautiful Skin

When it comes to skincare, more isn’t always better. In fact, one of the most common mistakes I see is using too many products, too many active ingredients, and too many complicated steps without understanding what the skin actually needs.

At Z Aesthetic Dermatology, our philosophy is simple: less is more when you use the right products consistently.

As a board-certified dermatologist and expert injector, Dr. Ann Zedlitz approaches skincare from a dermatologic perspective first. Healthy, beautiful skin is the foundation of every aesthetic treatment. Before we talk about lasers, injectables, or other aesthetic procedures, we want your skin to be healthy, protected, and functioning at its best.

That philosophy is why Dr. Z has developed her ABCs of Skincare—a straightforward approach built around a few essential ingredients and habits that support the skin today while helping protect it for the future.

The ABCs of Dr. Z Skincare

A is for Antioxidants — Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants you can add to a skincare routine.

Every day, your skin is exposed to environmental stressors, including UV radiation and pollution. A quality topical Vitamin C serum helps provide antioxidant protection while supporting a brighter, more even-looking complexion.

At Z Aesthetic Dermatology, we also believe in supporting collagen from the inside out. Topical Vitamin C combined with an oral, time-release Vitamin C supplement can be part of a comprehensive approach to supporting your skin’s natural collagen-building processes.

Think of Vitamin C as one of your skin’s daily defense systems.

B is for Block — Sunscreen

If there is one skincare step you should never skip, it is sun protection.

Dr. Z believes in using a physical sunscreen or physical block as an essential part of every skincare routine. Daily UV exposure is one of the biggest contributors to premature skin aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and loss of skin quality.

You can invest in the best skincare products and aesthetic treatments available, but if you are not protecting your skin from the sun, you are working against yourself.

Protect first. Treat second.

Sunscreen should be applied every morning and reapplied when you are spending extended time outdoors.

C is for Collagen — Tretinoin & Exosomes

Collagen is one of the keys to maintaining firm, healthy-looking skin as we age. Unfortunately, our natural collagen production decreases over time.

This is where targeted ingredients such as prescription tretinoin can play an important role.

Tretinoin is a dermatologist favorite because it has been extensively studied and can help improve skin cell turnover, texture, fine lines, pigmentation, and overall skin quality. Dr. Z often incorporates prescription tretinoin into customized skincare regimens when appropriate for the patient.

But skincare has evolved beyond traditional retinoids.

Exosomes, including advanced products such as Plated Skin Science, are another exciting component of regenerative skincare. These products are designed to support the skin’s natural repair and renewal processes and can be incorporated into a customized skincare regimen, particularly around certain aesthetic treatments.

The goal isn't to pile on every new product available. It's to choose the right tools for your skin and your goals.

Less Is More When It Comes to Skincare

A complicated 12-step skincare routine isn't necessarily a better skincare routine.

In fact, using too many products can sometimes lead to irritation, dryness, sensitivity, or breakouts. Combining multiple strong active ingredients without proper guidance can compromise the skin barrier rather than improve it.

Dr. Z’s philosophy is to focus on quality over quantity.

Your skincare routine should have a purpose. Every product should earn its place.

A basic routine may include:

  • A gentle cleanser
  • Vitamin C antioxidant protection
  • Physical sunscreen during the day
  • Prescription tretinoin at night when appropriate
  • Targeted regenerative products such as exosomes
  • A moisturizer or barrier-supporting product when needed

From there, your routine can be customized based on your skin type, age, concerns, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals.

Skincare Is the Foundation of Aesthetic Dermatology

At Z Aesthetic Dermatology, skincare and aesthetic treatments aren't separate conversations. They work together.

Healthy skin can provide a better foundation for treatments such as Botox, Dysport, dermal fillers, laser treatments, Morpheus8, Ultherapy PRIME, IPL, chemical peels, and other aesthetic procedures.

But Dr. Z's approach is not about changing everything.

As an expert injector, Dr. Z is known for a natural, refined approach to aesthetics. Her philosophy of “less is more” applies to skincare and injectables alike. The goal isn't to make you look like you've had something done. The goal is to help you look like the best version of yourself.

Sometimes that means a laser treatment. Sometimes it means an injectable. Sometimes it means simply getting your skincare routine on track.

And sometimes, the best treatment is knowing when not to do more.

Your Skin Is Unique — Your Skincare Should Be Too

There is no single skincare routine that works perfectly for everyone.

Your skin may need more hydration. You may be struggling with pigmentation, acne, fine lines, sun damage, or loss of firmness. Your skincare needs can also change as you age.

That's why we don't believe in simply handing everyone the same list of products.

At Z Aesthetic Dermatology, we can evaluate your skin and help develop a customized Z Game Plan based on where your skin is today and where you want it to go.

Because great skin isn't created overnight.

It's built through consistent protection, smart skincare, collagen support, and strategic aesthetic treatments when needed.

Start With the Basics. Then Build From There.

Beautiful skin doesn't require a bathroom counter full of products.

Start with Dr. Z's ABCs:

A — Antioxidants: Vitamin C to help defend and support healthy-looking skin.
B — Block:
Physical sunscreen to protect your skin from UV damage.
C — Collagen:
Tretinoin, exosomes, and other strategies designed to support skin quality and collagen.

Then let your skincare evolve as your skin evolves.

At Z Aesthetic Dermatology, our goal isn't to sell you more products. It's to help you understand what your skin actually needs.

Healthy skin is always in style—and sometimes, less really is more.
